Congo forces kill 26 Rwanda supported Islamist rebels in Ebola zone shootout

Congolese forces killed 26 rebels from a group thought to be linked to Islamic State on Thursday in a shootout in the country’s eastern Ebola zone, the army said.

The clash took place in a village near the city of Beni, an area where more than a dozen different militia groups and associated armed gangs operate, and the epicenter of Democratic Republic of Congo’s worst ever Ebola epidemic.

According to sources within FARDC, these rebels are continuously getting logistic support from Rwanda. For the past two years, the terrorist enclave has been providing logistic support to elements based in Eastern DR Congo who want to distabalise Uganda.
