Today, Burundi National Defence Force (Force de Défense Nationale Burundaise, or FDNB) released a statement denouncing accusations made against them by RDF-M23, and its chairman Bertrand Bisimwa.
In its statement, Burundi National Defence Force notes, “The FDNB is outraged by the false statements spread by M23 president Bertrand Bisimwa, reporting the participation of Burundian troops under EACRF in the fighting currently taking place in North Kivu.
Military Positions and control held by Burundian contingent under EACRF are known and the troops of the said contingent have never left them to fight. This is a true and verifiable fact.
The Burundian troops of EACRF remain to this day under the command of EACRF. However, as through its allegations, the M23 displays its warlike intentions against the troops of the said contingent, the latter will take necessary measures in the event of aggression.”
