As of Thursday, May 23, FARDC has taken control of the strategically significant hills of Numba and Kiluku, as well as the town of Shasha in the Masisi territory. This marks a significant advance in their ongoing campaign against RDF-M23 forces.
Following the capture of Shasha, FARDC forces proceeded to Bweremana, where intense fightings against RDF-M23 forces have persisted to this day, May 25, 2024.
FARDC units from Kalungu advanced to Minova, where they are currently engaged in fierce battles with RDF-M23 units. This heavy fighting is concentrated around Bweremana and Minova in the southern part of Masisi territory.
Notably, special force units from FARDC’s Eagle Brigade, composed of elite soldiers from the 2nd Military Zone who underwent two months of high-intensity training in Haut-Katanga, have now been deployed to the Masisi war theater. Their performance in the ongoing conflict has been exceptional, providing a crucial advantage to the FARDC in their efforts to pacify Northern Kivu region.
The situation remains dynamic and fluid, with both sides experiencing significant challenges and losses. The strategic maneuvers and relentless determination of the FARDC indicate a committed push to reclaim and stabilize key areas within Masisi, aiming to weaken the hold of RDF-M23 forces and restore order in this contested territories.
