A top Rwandan military officer is worried that his father could lose his life to cancer because his government banned military officers from travelling to Uganda.
According to this military chief his name withheld on request for fear of government repression, he cannot travel to Kampala to supervise his father’s treatment or send him money to be treated.
“Afande (Paul Kagame) issued an order that no military officer or police officer should be allowed to travel to Uganda unless they are authorized by the defense ministry with his knowledge”.He says.
Only those allowed are the ones authorized by the ministry to go and participate in activities under EAC or those allowed to go for seminars or training but not to those going for private engagements.
He adds “They fear that once we are allowed to cross to Uganda, we may not return. That’s why the border is far from being opened. The situation here is tense, they don’t want to hear anything like Uganda, you are not supposed to own or buy anything made from Uganda yet shops and markets in Kigali are empty, people are starving”.
He adds “Our phones are strictly monitored most especially like us who have our people that side, they don’t want you to have communication because they think we are in touch with authorities in Uganda”
According to this senior officer, in order to send some money to help his sickly father, he has to first send it to friends in Zambia or Malawi who also send it to Kampala.
” We cant use mobile money to send money to Uganda because it is strictly monitored. Companies here like MTN Rwanda has become a tool or spying on Rwandese for government and many people have lost their lives or disappeared because of MTN Rwanda which is now a tool of oppression”.
“Here afande has build a personality cult where even those oppressed cant observe the oppression but are worshipping him.In Rwanda you dont need brain to support afande because if you have one you will see his excesses and you will end up like Mihigo. Some of us see things differently but choose to keep quiet but i tell you what is here is a time bomb, one day it will explode.”
“Those youth you see on social media praising afande were brain-washed, they are now like terrorists, they can kill for him, yes am a senior officer here but i also fear some of them because they are every where to spy on us”.
“Recently i travelled to Nyagatare and people were telling me they are being punished or killed for putting on Ugandan fashions like Ankole women traditional wear or singing Runyankole Rukiga songs. Even the Janet fashion hair cut design was outlawed”. He revealed before going offline.
