The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, affirm that elements of Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) deployed in the territories of Masisi and Nyiragongo, in the province of North Kivu and this, comes after their deployment in the territory of Rutshuru (Eastern DRC).
In a press statement read this Friday, 16th December 2022, by FARDC spokesman, Major-General Sylvain Ekenge, these RDF elements have the mission of “perpetrating the massacres of civilians and attributing them to DR Congo army, the FARDC”.
“The precise information indicates the presence of an expeditionary corps of soldiers from the Rwanda Defence Force, responsible for carrying out massacres and targeted killings against the Congolese Tutsi population in order to attribute these despicable acts to the FARDC and to find a convincing alibi to justify the aggression in front of the international opinion”, declared the General-Major Sylvain Ekenge.
This is a new twist in the conflict between Kinshasa and Kigali since the resurgence of RDF-M23 invasion war in North Kivu. This comes a few days after the massacre of hundreds of civilians in the village of Kishishe, in Rutshuru territory. According to UN report, 131 civilians were killed by RDF-M23, but DR Congo government puts the figure to more than 270 civilians killed in Kishishe.
Meanwhile, after several days of calm, new clashes were reported this Friday, 16th December 2022 in Bwiza. In a statement released by RDF-M23, they accuse the government of Kinshasa for violating the ceasefire agreement imposed in November 2022, by heads of states during a mini-summit in Luanda, Angola.
