Presidential in Gabon: Dictator Ali Bongo is seeking a third term.

The Dictator of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba, in power for nearly fourteen years, announced on Sunday July 9 that he will be a candidate for a third presidential term on August 26, 2023.

The Dictator and his family control all institutions in Gabon. “I am officially announcing today that I am a candidate”, he launched in front of a few hundred supporters who chanted “Ali President” in a speech broadcast live on Twitter, in the special economic zone of Nkok, near the capital, Libreville.

The 64-year-old Dictator was first elected in 2009 after the death of his father Omar Bongo Ondimba, who had ruled the country for more than 41 years, then re-elected in 2016.

The official electoral campaign will run from August 11 to 25 at midnight, but most of the candidates have been carrying out campaigns for a year throughout the country, Dictator Bongo has multiplied in recent months election campaigns that has seen him making all sorts of promises to Gabonese people.

A stroke in October 2018 left Dictator Bongo, hospitalised for many months, away from his role of “leading” the country. The opposition continues to question his physical and mental capacity to lead the country. Since he replaced his father in 2009, the opposition have always questioned his competence to lead the country.

Ali Bongo, who still suffers from rigidity in one leg and one arm, moves with difficulty but due to upcoming general elections, he has multiplied meet the people campaigns around the country, things that he had stopped in 2018 due to poor health. The opposition have continued denounce the “dynastic power” after fifty-five years of reign of the Bongo family.
